THE GAZETTE, MONTREAL, FRIDAY, MAY 28, 1999 OF SPECIAL INTEREST

Sculptures made of clay like us, by Dorota Kozinska

Public art comes in many guises, and one of the most unusual is the product of Montrealer Monique Crépult. Out of clay, she has molded primeval-looking, golem-like figures'which she positions in the environment, creating images that disturb and intrigue. Clinging to tree trunks, or dissolving slowly in a puddle of water amid tracks like those made by trucks (or tanks?), these featureless beings remind us of our link with nature, and the primordial soup we come from.

Her Abecorn series of photographs of such installations is accompanied by poetic, mysterious paintings' called -Moonbridge, all on view in an exhibition titled"... dust& water...", at Espace 414, 372 Ste. Catherine St w., until . Sunday.
