Marc Chatelle

Marc Chatelle

Born in Cuels, near Saint-Tropez (France), in 1935. He moved to Montreal when he was 20 years old and became a journalist, finding work with the polular weekly journals in Quebec. He managed several publications: la Patrie, le Petit Journal, Point de Mire, Le Samedi… and was even delegated to oversee the publication of Écho Vedettes. He started painting at the age of 62. His works are characterized by a certain naïveté and offer a refreshing, sometimes humourous, perspective on the world of fine arts.

Two prizes from the Cercle des artistes peintres et sculpteurs du Québec:

It was during the International Gala of Visual Arts, held in Salle Pierre-Mercure at the Centre Pierre-Péladeau in Montreal, that the prizes from the Cercle des artistes peintres et sculpteurs du Québec were awarded. Frank de la Roche was awarded the Gold Medal for sculpture, whereas in the painting category, it was Marc Chatelle who was honoured with this great distinction. The gala was presided by the honourable Lise Thibault, Lieutenant Governor of Quebec and by Maurice Daigle, representative of Québécor. (December 1997)
