Was born at Saint-Flore, Québec, Canada in 1909. Ayotte was educated at the College Séraphique and at Trois-Rivières Seminary, and finally in Nicolet, however is a self-taught painter. He worked many years as a model and as a janitor at the Ecole des beaux-arts in Montreal, where, being constant contact with art students and teachers, he developed his taste for art. Ayotte started to paint in the 30’s. By 1945, he decided to devote himself entirely to his art. In the early 50’s, he became a friend with Pollen and writer François Hertel.

During a trip to Europe in 1963, he discovered the new Realism, which will have a certain influence on his method of expression. He passed away in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada, December 1976. Ignored by most galleries for years, Ayotte gained belated recognition towards the end of his life. He is especially known for his landscape but also he took an interest in portraiture and still life. There are several books and articles about his life and art.
